Disruption overview
Dense fog at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá forced LATAM Airlines to cancel 12 domestic flights on 15 April 2026 , disrupting services to Medellín, Bucaramanga, Cali, and Cartagena. Most other flights were rescheduled, and affected passengers were offered rebooking later the same day or on 16 April, with priority given to travelers with onward connections or urgent plans. LATAM said visibility began to improve by mid-afternoon and expected operations to recover gradually through the evening. Because the disruption was caused by weather outside the airline’s control, compensation is unlikely, but passengers should still receive care and assistance such as rebooking, refreshments, and overnight accommodation if needed.
Disruption details
LATAM Airlines canceled 12 domestic flights at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá on 15 April 2026 after dense morning fog cut visibility and slowed operations. For passengers, this meant a frustrating morning of rebookings and changed plans on routes across Colombia.
The disruption began in the early hours when heavy fog settled over the Bogotá plateau. Airport authorities kept the remaining available runway open at a reduced movement rate, but there weren’t enough slots to support LATAM’s planned schedule.
Most of the airline’s flights were rescheduled rather than canceled, but 12 services couldn’t be operated within the day’s remaining capacity. The disruption also left aircraft and crews out of position, which added pressure on domestic links from Bogotá.
The canceled services affected routes between Bogotá and:
Medellín
Bucaramanga
Cali
Cartagena
LATAM said affected passengers were being rebooked on later departures on 15 April or, where needed, on 16 April. Priority was being given to travelers with immediate onward connections or other time-sensitive plans.
Through the day, LATAM’s operations team monitored live weather updates and worked with El Dorado’s air traffic management unit to restore the schedule. By mid-afternoon, visibility had started to improve, and the airline expected a gradual return to normal operations during the evening peak if forecasts held.
Customers were also urged to check LATAM’s website or app before heading to the airport. Extra staff were deployed at airport counters to help with rebooking, and refreshments were being provided where needed.
Because these cancellations were caused by weather outside the airline’s control, compensation is unlikely here. That doesn’t mean you’re without support, though. If your trip was disrupted, the airline should still provide care and assistance, including rebooking or a refund, food and drinks during long waits, and hotel accommodation if an overnight stay is needed. What to do if your flight is delayed, canceled, or overbooked
If you're traveling to, from, or within the European Union, here's what you should do when you experience a disruption.
Gather evidence that your flight was delayed, cancelled, or overbooked.
Get the airline to provide written confirmation of the disruption and the reason behind it.
Request an alternative flight to your destination — or a refund if you no longer wish to travel.
Make a note of the arrival time at your final destination.
Ask the airline to provide vouchers for meals and refreshments.
Avoid signing documents or accepting offers that may waive your passenger rights.
If an overnight stay is required, ask the airline to provide accommodation.
Save receipts for any additional expenses caused by the disruption.
