For the people on board, that meant being taken off the aircraft immediately, going through extra screening, and facing an unplanned overnight stay in Denver.
The item was a firearm component designed to hold live rounds, and it had not been declared or secured. After the crew alerted airport security, standard breach procedures were triggered. Every passenger left the plane, underwent additional TSA screening, and waited while the aircraft and their baggage were searched.

No injuries were reported, and Frontier's broader schedule was not affected. The airline's response — removing passengers straight away, coordinating with TSA and federal law enforcement, and arranging overnight re-accommodation — appears to have followed standard procedure.
The FBI's Denver Field Office has now opened a federal investigation into what happened, and Denver International Airport said it will cooperate fully. Investigators are expected to examine:
Whether checkpoint screening failed.
Whether special permissions for law-enforcement officers carrying weapons were handled correctly.
Whether any criminal charges are warranted.
That matters beyond this one flight. Denver International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the United States, and the findings could prompt changes in how airports handle law-enforcement exemptions in the future.
