Know your Easyjet flight compensation rights

Your right to compensation for delayed Easyjet flights is protected in many cases by European regulation EC 261, which has been incorporated into UK law as UK 261.

Compensation ranges between £220 and £520 per person, depending on flight distance. The amounts are set by EC 261 (and UK 261) regulations, so Easyjet can't offer you less.

EC 261 applies to all flights departing from the EU and EU-based airlines arriving at EU airports. Nearly all Easyjet flights are therefore covered by EC Regulation 261.

You're entitled to compensation for delays of 3+ hours, cancellations, and denied boarding on Easyjet flights, unless caused by extraordinary circumstances.

AirHelp supports your right to compensation and makes the claims process simple. Our assistance is risk-free – you pay nothing if we don’t win your compensation.

Compensation for delayed Easyjet flights

Although airlines like Easyjet aim to maintain their scheduled times, flights may still arrive late. Fortunately, as a traveller, you are covered by airline passenger rights when Easyjet flights are delayed.

As Easyjet is headquartered in the EU, nearly all of its flights are protected by EC 261, one of the most comprehensive laws protecting air passenger rights globally. EC 261, following Brexit, was incorporated into UK law as UK 261.

EC Regulation 261 gives passengers the right to claim compensation when they have faced delayed, cancelled, or overbooked flights that are not their fault.

In the event of an Easyjet delay, you may be entitled to compensation if these circumstances occur:

  • The flight arrives at its destination at least 3 hours late

  • The flight departs from an EU/UK airport. If it arrives at an EU/UK airport, you are entitled to compensation if the airline is European or UK, such as Easyjet.

  • The delay is not due to extraordinary circumstances, such as bad weather or problems at the airport. Nevertheless, if the delay is caused by technical issues or a strike by airline staff, you will likely be eligible for compensation under Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004.

You generally have up to 6 years (5 years in Scotland) to make an Easyjet flight delay compensation claim. Simply enter your flight details and our user-friendly flight delay compensation calculator will tell you if you qualify for monetary compensation, and our team of professionals will be available to assist you in obtaining it.

Easyjet compensation for cancelled flights

In the event of an Easyjet flight cancellation, European laws on air passenger rights are clear: the airline must offer you alternative transportation to get to your destination or, if you prefer, a refund. In addition to this, you may also be entitled to compensation from Easyjet if:

  • You received a notice regarding cancellation less than 14 days before departure, you may also be eligible to claim compensation of up to £520 per person.

  • Following the flight cancellation, Easyjet rebooks you on an alternative flight and your new arrival time is significantly different from your original flight.

There are cases where passengers are not entitled to compensation for a cancelled Easyjet flight:

  • If Easyjet books you a new flight that arrives at a similar time to your original flight, it is not required to pay compensation. This is because your plans will have minimal disruption.

  • If the flight cancellation was caused by an event beyond Easyjet's control, such as severe weather conditions or an accident at the airport. Such events are referred to as extraordinary circumstances.

Internal EU flights over 1,500 kmUp to £350 (€400) per person

Air passenger rights and flight compensation

Because Easyjet is based within the EU, almost all the flights they offer are protected by EC 261, one of the world's most comprehensive laws for air passenger rights.

The EC 261 Regulation grants passengers the right to claim compensation when they have experienced delayed, cancelled or overbooked flights, through no fault of their own. Passengers can also claim previous flights. Often you can still claim flights from the past 6 years (5 years in Scotland).

How to claim your Easyjet compensation

There are two ways to make an Easyjet compensation claim – direct via the airline or via a third party expert like AirHelp.

We’ve won compensation for 3 million passengers worldwide.

Claiming via the Easyjet website

Every airline has its own individual claims process which should be somewhere on their website. You’ll need to gather all the documents about your flight, research the regulations to determine whether your claim is eligible, and then submit it and follow up.

If you don’t get a reply or you aren’t satisfied, you can find the relevant national aviation authority and pursue your claim with them. If that fails, you may want to consider hiring a lawyer and taking legal action through the courts.
